Government Partners

The Institute of International Education works on behalf of the United States Government and governments around the world to implement many of the world’s most prestigious educational exchange and training programs. IIE is honored to administer a strategic set of programs on behalf of the U.S. Department of State, including the Fulbright Student and Scholar Programs, the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowships, the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program, and the International Visitors Leadership Program. IIE administers the David L. Boren Awards for International Study on behalf of the National Security Education Program (NSEP), and also partners with the U.S. Department of Education and USAID on key higher education and training initiatives. IIE has established strong relationships with the governments of China, Brazil, Mexico, Panama, India, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Indonesia, among others.


Corporations and Corporate Foundations

IIE works with corporations to develop talent in strategic world regions and professional fields such as engineering, management, health, and information technology. These programs bring global recognition to corporations for their philanthropic and educational investments. IIE partners with corporations and corporate foundations to design and implement a wide variety of scholarship and training programs that provide current and future employees with the academic training, cross-cultural skills and leadership needed to succeed in the 21st century. IIE works in close collaboration with corporate partners to custom-tailor programs and services to meet specific corporate needs and philanthropic objectives.


Private Foundations

With the support of private foundations, IIE implements scholarship and training programs that develop human capital and address key challenges in education and development around the world. These initiatives provide educational opportunities to outstanding individuals from disadvantaged groups; convene experts and thought leaders; and build leadership in countries undergoing transformation. IIE programs are supported by Ford Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Open Society Institute, Packard Foundation, and Rockefeller Foundation, among others.

International Organizations

IIE assists international agencies, such as the International Monetary Fund and the International Labor Organization, in implementing programs that develop talent and address urgent global challenges. IIE services include the recruitment, screening, and selection of scholarship grantees worldwide; contracting of consultants with facilitation of their travel, insurance and meeting arrangements; and administration of grants to individual or organizational grantees with operational oversight and tax compliance. IIE offers flexible, tailored support that aligns with the agencies' operations, staffing, and timeline.
