By Allan Goodman/New York
An Op-ed by IIE President and CEO Allan Goodman ran in the May 3, 2010 issue of the Gulf Times. In the feature, Dr. Goodman discusses the recent successes for international education in the Middle East, including the achievements of Doha's Education City, and the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for the region's burgeoning knowledge economy.
Qatar’s Education City hosts its third senior convocation today to celebrate the graduation of the nearly 200 students in the Class of 2010. These students will receive degrees from their respective universities in fields ranging from design, medicine and engineering to Islamic studies, business, computer science and foreign service. With more than 75 countries represented in the student body at Education City and a true international commitment, they will also have something that millions of other students graduating from universities around the world this commencement season will not have – preparation for global citizenship.
